Five Go Camping (2/5)
The next morning, the four were woken by the sound of birds and the feeling
of Brandy licking their feet.
"Yuck!" said Baby Bowtie.
The four tumbled out of bed and made breakfast.
"Mmm, this is such bliss!", sighed Baby Paws as he drank hot
tea and munched on some dewy grass. "What shall we do today?"
"I fancy a bracing walk," said Baby Drummer.
"Rather!" said the others.
So the girls made grass sandwiches while the boys secured the tents,
and then they set off.
Soon,
they came to a babbling brook.
"Ooh, let's paddle!" shouted Baby Drummer.
"But we'll get wet feet. We might catch colds," whimpered Baby
Bowtie.
"Oh, you soppy scaredy cat," said Baby Applejack. "Come
on, I'll race you!" And she jumped in.
"Brr, it's deliciously cold!" she yelled. "Come on, you
cowardy custards!" And she paddled further in.
"Hang on, what the dash is that?" said Baby Paws. "Look,
floating down the stream! Over there! It looks like a bottle!"
"I'll get it!" cried Applejack. "Come on Brandy, give
me a hand!" And the two splished, splashed and sploshed until they
reached the bottle, and swum ashore.
"You're too reckless, Applejack, you know," scolded Baby Bowtie
as she handed her friend a warm, dry towel.
"Quick, let's open it!" said Baby Paws, grabbing at the bottle.
"What's inside?"
"Not so fast," said Baby Drummer. "This could require
careful handling." And he opened the bottle and peered inside.
"What is it? Tell us! Tell us!" pleaded Bowtie, jumping up
and down with excitement.
Carefully, Baby Drummer drew out two pieces of paper. One was a note.
It said, "B: Your map. Remember this. Your friend, S."
What's the other one say?" cried Baby Applejack, trembling with
anticipation as much as cold.
Baby Drummer showed it to the others.
It was, as the note suggested, a map. And in the middle of the map was
a big "X" labelled "Treasure".
